CASE STUDY:
Stella Rodriques, 47 yrs, Working woman, was repeatedly given antibiotics for Skin infections. The usual course used
to be of 3 weeks. After 2 years of therapy, one day She stopped passing urine. She was diagnosed to have Acute Renal
Failure as part of Adverse effect of Antibiotics. She was admitted to the hospital put on Dialysis. On Discharge She
was advised repeat Dialysis for some months. However She resorted to Nature Therapy and with this her
Diet changed. Her Medicines were stopped. She made a complete recovery within two months and now leads a drug free life.

ANTIBIOTIC THERAPY & DRUG THERAPY
The
natural course of the illness or the infection has to be weighed against the unusual but potentially deleterious adverse effects
of the medications. Some of the serious side effects are

Hepatotoxicity
and super infection
(9) Erythromycin
Cholestatic
Jaundice, Hepatotoxicity
(10) Sulphonamides
Steven
Johnson Syndrome & Renal Failure
(11) Metronidazole
Seizure
& Periferal Neuropathies
(12) Steroids
Axis
suppression with even a dose of 10 mg prednisone per day for as less as 3 weeks, the suppression lasting upto 1 year. Any
disease or insult will take a longer course to resolve or will precipitate a acute adrenal crisis.
(13) Aspirin
Can
cause fatal Reyes Syndrome in under 16 years of age can also cause cerebral Hemorrhage in patients with pre existing vascular
lesions and severe and occasionally fatal exacerbations of Bronchial Asthma.
(14) NSAIDS
Can
cause gastric ulcers , severe GI Bleeding Interstitial Nephritis, Agranulocytosis, Bronchospasm and Hepatic Necrosis.
(15) Cardiovascular Drugs
Beta
Blockers and Calcium Blockers can precipitate cardiac failure by depressing the myocardium, cause heart block by depression
of the AV-Node, cause transient cardiac arrest and hypotension. Beta Blockers
can cause impotence, cause bronchospasm and worsen or provoke an asthmatic attack. ACE
Blockers can cause fatal hyperkalemias, Neutropenias, Bone Marrow depression and renal failure.
(16) Benzodiazepines
They
can precipitate respiratory failure and cause Glaucoma.
(17) Antibiotic Therapy
This
is now known to increase the risk of enteric fever.
(18) Zidovudine
This
is a potent immunosupressant and yet is used to treat human immuno deficiency virus disease, paradoxically.
